WetGill (“WetGill,” “we,” “us”) makes WetGill Nav, an outdoor adventure navigation app, and runs the website at wetgill.com. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We’ve tried to keep it short and plain.
1. Information we collect
On this website
- Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure records technical details of each request, such as IP address, browser type, pages requested, and time. We use these logs to keep the site running and secure.
- Messages you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.
This website does not use advertising cookies or sell your data, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
In the WetGill Nav app
WetGill Nav is under development. When it’s released, the app may handle the following:
- Account information. If you create an account, we collect your email address and the details needed to sign you in and keep your account secure.
- Location. With your permission, the app uses your device’s location to show your position on the map, record waypoints, and look up local tide and weather conditions. You can turn off location access in your device settings at any time.
- Bluetooth. The app uses Bluetooth to connect to your Meshtastic radio. Messages, node details, and positions exchanged over your mesh network are stored on your device, and are not sent to our servers.
- Waypoints and saved items. Places you mark and settings you choose are stored on your device.
2. How we use information
- To provide, operate, and improve the website and the app.
- To create and secure your account.
- To show tide, weather, and map information for the area you’re in.
- To send you the emails described below.
- To respond to your questions and requests.
- To protect against misuse and to meet legal obligations.
3. Email we send
We only send email to people who have given us their address, for example by creating an account or asking us to notify them about WetGill Nav. We do not buy, rent, or trade email lists.
The email we send falls into two kinds:
- Account and service email. Verification codes, password resets, security notices, and important changes to the service.
- Launch and product updates. News about WetGill Nav, sent only if you asked to hear from us.
We send email through Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES). Every product update email includes a link to unsubscribe, and we honor unsubscribe requests promptly. You can also opt out at any time by emailing privacy@wetgill.com. Account and service email is part of providing the service and can’t be turned off while you have an account.
We monitor bounces and spam complaints. Addresses that bounce permanently, or that report our email as spam, are removed from our mailing so we stop sending to them.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run WetGill, and only as needed for that purpose:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS). Hosting, account sign-in, application services, and email delivery through Amazon SES.
- Tide and weather data providers. To return conditions for your area, we send approximate coordinates to these providers. We do not send your name or email address.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users, the public, or WetGill.
5. How long we keep it
We keep account information for as long as you have an account. If you delete your account, or ask us to, we delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must keep it for legal or security reasons. Server logs are kept for a limited time and then removed.
6. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access controls on our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.
7. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, to object to or restrict certain uses, and to withdraw consent you’ve given. To use any of these rights, email privacy@wetgill.com. We may need to verify your identity first, and we’ll respond within a reasonable time.
8. Children
WetGill is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the website and app grow. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date above, and for significant changes we’ll take additional steps such as notifying account holders by email.
